Fire Update

According to today's Texas Forest Service Report, 25,660 acres and 12 homes burned in Scurry County over the weekend.

"Heavy airtankers and Type I helicopters have worked the past two days to try to keep this fire from further damaging the town of Snyder. Five fires comprised the complex that started during high winds Saturday:
  • County Line, 19,860 acres
  • Snyder, 5785 acres
  • Dermott, 480 acres
  • Union, 165 acres
  • Airport, 15 acres
Numerous homes were evacuated as well as Western Texas College and a nursing home. Residents of a second nursing home were forced to shelter in place as the fire quickly approached the area. Twelve homes and numerous outbuildings were destroyed. Fire crews will
continue today to work towards containing the fires," states the report.

Fires are currently burning in Coke, Sterling and Callahan Counties and north of the Dallas area.
